Many of my clients come to me looking for an old chartplotter upgrade. They can no longer find up to date chips or software update, or their old unit is dying. Naturally, they are looking for an affordable alternative to spending thousands on a new MFD display. This is where my navigation laptops and tablets come in. Any questions? Please contact me!
Chartplotter upgrade from these
I’ve upgraded many of my clients from some of the older chartplotters below.
- Raymarine C90W, E90W, C120W, E120W, C80, E80, C120, E120.
- Garmin GPSmap 196, 176, 176C, 296, 396, 496, 495, 276C, 376C, 278, 378, 478.
- Various older Lowrance, Si-Tex, Humminbird, Furuno models.
Repairing these older units often makes no sense. Their age often makes them less reliable. Even if they work, it’s a great idea to have a backup just to make sure. Please take a look at all the advantages offered by my units.
Chartplotter upgrade – keep it as a fish finder & backup!
The navigation laptop and tablet units I supply have full chart plotter functionality. However, they do not come with a transducer (for depth sounding) or fish finder (picture) functionality by default. Your old chartplotter is clumsy and lacks up to date marine charts. However, if the transducer and or fish finder is functional, it’s great news. Many of my clients keep their old unit and use it side by side with one of my systems! This also provides a measure of redundancy, which is always great on the water.
Even better, if you have working radar on your old plotter, keep it just for that. While my systems support digital radar, it’s often the most expensive component.

Why use a navigation laptop as a chart plotter?
My navigation laptop systems can be much more affordable than Garmin, Lowrance, Simrad, B&G, Furuno, Humminbird, Raymarine, Si-Tex. I will also support the GPS laptop your purchase forever! Furthermore, I believe that some of the commercial chart plotter brands gouge their customers. Large companies force you to upgrade by no longer supporting older units with chart and software updates. In addition, they charge outrageous fees for simple things like a larger screen size. I don’t do any of these things, and never will – guaranteed! In addition to these, please take a look at other advantages as well. A GPS laptop can offer a compelling alternative to major brands!
