Some of my clients who buy my navigation laptops have asked me about where they can get free Sea Surface Temperature (SST) for commercial fishing, and other applications. Therefore, I’ve made this page which lists various sources and options for SST. I will try to update it as new sources become available. Please contact me with any questions!

Free SST via xyGrib – coming in 2022!
xyGrib is an awesome marine weather download tool which works anywhere in the world. They should support SST as a new layer in the next major release version that is coming soon. Once this is available, this will probably be the best option. The current version is 1.2.6 in March 2022 which so far does not support SST. When this is updated, they should add sea surface temperature map sources. You can check for the current version here.

Not practically useful for commercial fishing, but just fun to look at!
Why use my navigation laptops to view SST maps?
My navigation laptop systems can be much more affordable than Garmin, Lowrance, Simrad, B&G, Furuno, Humminbird, Raymarine, Si-Tex. They make fancy expensive MFD’s, but not everyone needs that. I will also support the GPS laptop you purchase forever. Furthermore, I believe that some of the commercial chart plotter brands gouge their customers. Large companies force you to upgrade by no longer supporting older units with chart and software updates. In addition, they charge outrageous fees for simple things like a larger screen size. I don’t do any of these things, and never will – guaranteed. In addition to these, please take a look at other advantages as well. A GPS laptop can offer a compelling alternative to major brands! Please contact me, and I’ll help you pick a GPS laptop or tablet that works well for you!
